Motion-picture musical about an orphan boy living in the streets of London, England, during the 19th century, based on the often-filmed 1960 play by Lionel Bart adapted from the novel Oliver Twist (1837-1839) by Charles Dickens. Released in 1968, this film won six Academy Awards including Best Picture and Best Director for British director Carol Reed.

4 N9 p; Q" u  ^- n) q  x0 AOliver! was the only G-rated film to be honored with an Academy Award for Best Picture (the following year saw the only X-rated film to win a Best Picture Oscar: Midnight Cowboy, which was re-rated R two years later). Oliver! was also the last musical to win the Best Picture Oscar until Chicago 34 years later.
