Pictures of the unusual creature were posted to website Reddit this week and have attracted more than one million views, the New York Daily News reports.
New Jersey man Doug Cutler reportedly used a bow and arrow to spear the creature, which he spotted on a fishing trip.

Its identity is unknown, but a New York Department of Environmental Conservation spokeswoman told Outdoor magazine it appeared to be a sea lamprey, a parasite found in northern Atlantic waters.

The sea lamprey grows up to 1.2m in length and weighs up to 2.5kg, according to the MarineBio Conservation Society.
It attaches itself to host fish including herring, mackerel, salmon, trout and some sharks using a "sucker".

真的是很可怕的creature,據說sea lamprey ( 海七鳃鳗)被称为海洋“吸血鬼”，它小圆锯般的嘴就是为“吸血刮肉”而生的,有它尖尖的牙齿和吸盘，能够牢牢的吸附在其他鱼类身上，连大鱼也难以逃脱。它们紧紧吸住对方后，会咬穿其皮肉吸食其中的血液，是名副其实的“吸血鬼”。
