Despite passing Coronel’s BMW for seventh as the Dutchman suffered with high tyre wear, Huff was unable to pass Thompson to break into the top six.

Huff’s second race was characterised by a pass on Charles Ng’s BMW into the first corner, after the yellow flags were lifted following the accident of the newly crowned WTCC champion, Yvan Muller.

“It was a pretty average weekend in terms of the results, although that just shows how high we set the bar earlier this season,” said Huff. “Racing at Suzuka can be quite frustrating if you’re stuck behind a train of cars, especially if you believe you have more speed underneath you [as] it’s just so difficult to overtake here.
