Armand Traore feels he has fully justified his decision not to move out on loan.

The French youngster, described by Arsenal captain William Gallas as having ‘monster potential’, continues to be a revelation at left-back. He has scored twice for the Reserves this term and put in an eye catching performance against Newcastle in the Carling Cup.
The 18-year-old excelled in his favoured position last season, starting every game of the Carling Cup run from the Fourth Round and playing in the FA Cup too. He was rewarded with a first-team squad number and travelled to Austria for the pre-season training camp.

The Frenchman was rumoured to be subject of a loan move in August but told Arsenal.com at the time that he wanted to stay at the Club and keep on improving. His position remains the same, but now he has his sights set higher than he had originally planned.
“I have spoken with the boss and he has told me that the position of official second-choice left-back is there for me,” he said.  “That doesn’t mean it will be always though, so I must just keep trying hard in training and when I am asked to play there, just show that I can do it.

“I think I am going to stay at Arsenal and still try to keep improving every day in training. I wanted to do that rather than go on loan, but when I speak to the manager and if he tells me that it has to be done, then of course it will be done.”

Hildebrand prepared to wait - Germany goalkeeper happy to play second fiddle to Lehmann

Timo Hildebrand has accepted that Jens Lehmann will be Germany's first-choice goalkeeper at Euro 2008.



The Valencia keeper will deputise for the suspended Lehmann when Germany take on Czech Republic in a Euro 2008 qualifier on Wednesday.


But Hildebrand does not believe he will get ahead of Lehmann in the pecking order regardless of what happens over the next few months.


"The goalkeeping hierarchy has been set and our coach has told us which roles we have to play," Hildebrand told the German press.

"We mustn't fight each other but work together for the good of the team.


"I'm not the type to make demands via the media. Of course we don't know what will happen if Jens doesn't get to play for Arsenal for some time, but everybody knows that no change is planned in goal ahead of the European Championships.


"Jens will retire from international football at some point and I reckon I will then get my chance to play in the national team."


Hildebrand's words will come as a relief to coach Joachim Low less than two years after the intense rivalry between Lehmann and Oliver Kahn disturbed Germany's preparation for the 2006 World Cup.

Arsenal's Traore doesn't want to be a loan right now - 16th October 2007

Arsenal's Armand Traore has turned down the chance of a loan-move in the belief his continuing improvement will be better served by staying with the Gunners.

The left-back - who only turned 18 last week but is said by Arsenal captain William Gallas to have "monster potential" - has already scored twice for the reserves this term.

Charlton manager Alan Pardew may take Arsenal's Alexandre Song back on loan.

The youngster spent the second half of last season at Charlton, and the Addicks boss said: "We are always interested in quality players but at the moment he is under contract to another club."

Gilberto - I was proud to lead my country

Gilberto recently returned from captaining his country to success in the Copa America.

He says it was one of the proudest moments of his career.

Brazil had come under heavy criticism after their disappointing World Cup 2006 campaign and the midfielder believes winning the trophy was an excellent riposte to that tournament.  

"It was fantastic for me,” he told Arsenal TV Online. “The proudest moment for me because it was the first time I was captain of my country and we won a big competition.  

“No one expected us to win it but we just regrouped as players, staff and manager and we didn’t care about people outside that criticised us. That made the difference."

Cesc dodges Barca talk

Cesc Fabregas has played down talk of a summer move to Barcelona, but the Arsenal midfielder has added weight to the debate by admitting he enjoys playing alongside Camp Nou stars Xavi and Andres Iniesta.

Fabregas’ career has blossomed since he left Barcelona for Arsenal as a teenager, but he has never hidden his desire to return to his native land at some stage.

Real Madrid are admirers of the midfield star, but reports over the weekend suggested Barca were readying a huge bid to lure him to Catalunya.

Barca sporting director Txiki Beguristain suggested it would be difficult to sanction paying a huge sum for a player who left the club as a teenager.

And Fabregas was giving nothing away on whether he would welcome a return to Barca, despite admitting he is a fan of Xavi and Iniesta.



”It is very easy to play alongside Andres Iniesta and Xavi because we are from the same academy and see the game in the same way,” Fabregas told El Mundo Deportivo.

Replying to questions on whether he would like to play with the pair next term, Fabregas added: “Honestly I don’t know.”

Fabregas was probed on whether his Spain colleagues had been urging him to return to Barca.

”If they had been saying that I wouldn’t reveal it to you,” he quipped.

Czech starlet attracts Liverpool & Arsenal

Arsenal and Liverpool are chasing FK Teplice striker Martin Fenin, according to the Italian press.



Il Messaggero newspaper claims the Czech Republic international, who impressed in the Under 20 World Cup earlier this year, has caught the eye of Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.


Fenin has been linked with Werder Bremen, Espanyol and Lazio, but none of the clubs have met the requirements set out by Teplice director Frantisek Hrdlicka.


Pavel Zika, Fenin's agent, has hinted that Arsenal and Liverpool could be interested in a move for the 20-year-old, but he says the Premier League pair have yet to make contact with Teplice, who play in the Czech Republic.


"A lot of clubs want Martin," Zika told Il Messaggero.


"It is possible that these two want him as well, but neither Arsenal nor Liverpool have been in negotiations with us so far."

Barca: Cesc must make first move

Txiki Begiristain says Cesc Fabregas 'would have to show a desire' to rejoin Barcelona and make the first move if he wanted to leave Arsenal.


Barca's technical secretary was reacting to rumours that the Gunners playmaker would be interested in a return to the Nou Camp if Frank Rijkaard's Spanish giants made their interest known.

After deciding to try his luck in England at the age of 15, however, Fabregas is no longer seen as a favourite son by the Catalan giants, who admit they would it hard to stump up a massive transfer fee for the 20-year-old.

"He is a great player but the circumstances of his departure make things very difficult," Begiristain told Avui. "We cannot pay a great quantity for a homegrown player that decided to leave us.

"To start with he would have to show his desire to return."
